Raster Vs Vector file

February 18, 2021

Atlas is a team of creatives, at your fingertips.  We aren't scared of new ideas and we take challenges head on.  Atlas deals with many customers every day, most of them don't have "print-ready" artwork.... and thats ok.

As a customer it’s not your job to understand the process entirely, that’s why we’re here!   Our team of graphic designers is ready to help out wherever necessary.  Digital Proofs are provided with every custom order.   We believe in educating one another.  Knowing the difference between vector and raster (or pixel) is critical to getting great looking custom printed products.

Raster Vs Vector Explained:

Raster –

  • Pixel-based design
  • DOES NOT SCALE UP OPTIMALLY
  • Used for photo editing/digital illustrations
  • Not universally formatted
  • JPG, GIF, PNG, TIF, BMP, PSD, EPS, PDF

Vector –

  • Shapes, not pixels
  • Infinite scalability
  • Can be printed at any size/resolution
  • Used for creating logos, illustrations, and images that are meant to be applied to physical products
  • AI, CDR, SVG, EPS, PDF
